ABSTRACT
The
research work appraised the factor affecting the academic performance of
accounting students of University of Nigeria NSUKKA, College of Education,
Ikere-Ekiti Campus.
The
final year student (3/3 & 4/4) of accounting education formed the
population for the study. For the purpose of collecting the data for the study,
the modified liker type of questionnaire was used. Descriptive statistics was
used to analyze the data collected.
In
order to determine the statistical significance of the result derived after the
use of descriptive statistic, chi square was used to test the hypothesis stated
for the study.
Based on the use of chi-square to test the
null hypothesis, it was discovered that the null were significant and hence
they were all rejected and accept the alternative hypothesis which indicated
that there is significant relationship between factors stated – school
environments, parent, socio-economic status, lecturers role in the classroom,
and former school background on one hand academic performance of the students
on the other hand are related. It was recommended that the school
administration should not only focus on the student’s academic performance but
also on providing necessary facilities needed to enhance student’s performance,
for example equipping the library with internet facilities making the classroom
free congestion and giving room for more ventilation.
