ABSTRACT
The study centers on the impact of
educational facilities on teaching and learning of Economics in Secondary
schools in Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State. Three (3) secondary schools were sampled for
the study.
A well structured questionnaire was
used to gather data form the selected schools while the outcome of the response
obtained from the field were analyzed using simple percentage method.
The study shows that educational
facilities have major effect on the teaching and learning of Economics in
secondary schools.
The study also reveals the cause of
low performance of students in Economics as a result of lack of educational
facilities in secondary schools. Above
all, some recommendations were made to solve these problems.

CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1
Background to the study
This research work deals with the
effects or impact of educational facilities on the teaching and learning of
Economics in secondary schools. This
work will state and explain the importance of educational facilities in the
teaching and learning of Economics in secondary schools.
The use of educational facilities in
Economics as a subject has been discovered to facilitate effective teaching and
transfer of information, knowledge, skills, attitude and other useful
capabilities.
It is very important to use
educational facilities during the teaching and learning of Economics to acquire
more knowledge on what the teacher is teaching that facilitate learning. It makes learning easier and convenient for
the teachers and learners. It is also
known as self – supportive devices in which can be use by the teacher to
present a body of necessary information in teaching and learning process.
Akanbi (1988), observes that the
unique place of educational facilities has traditionally been grossly
misunderstood and correspondingly neglected.
Therefore, this research work will deal with educational facilities
available in teaching and learning process and how the teacher can make
effective use of them to achieve educational objective.
The fact is that without educational facilities,
the teachers cannot have effective teaching and the Nigeria government has been
concerned about it. That educational
facilities should be available in the school in order to be applied to teaching
and learning activities. Therefore, this
work will also deal with application of teaching aids and educational activity
especially is Economics as a subject.
1.2
Statement of the Problem
It is probable that the low level
performance of students in Economics at the secondary school level is as a
result of inadequate impact of educational facilities on the teaching and
learning.
This study is therefore developed
specifically to:
i.
determine
the quality of teacher of Economics in the secondary school Ondo West Local
Government Area of Ondo State.
ii.
determine
whether there is enough textbook available for the students.
iii.
determine
the nature and qualities of instructional materials for teaching Economics in
the secondary schools.
1.3
Objectives of the Study
The broad objective of this work is
to examine the impact of educational facilities on the teaching and learning of
Economics in secondary school in Ondo
State. However, the specific objective are:
i.
To
ameliorate the problem associated with the use of teaching aids in secondary
schools.
ii.
To
find out the impact of using educational facilities on the teaching and
learning of Economics in secondary schools.

Research Questions
For the purpose of this study, the
underlisted questions were asked;
i.
Does
the use of educational facilities have impact on the teaching and learning of
Economics?
ii.
Does
lack of equipped library a major cause of student failure in Economics?
iii.
Do
student fail Economics because of the school environment?
iv.
Do
student fail Economics because of lack educational facilities in schools?
v.
Do
teaching facilities improve the understand of Economics students in the
learning process?

Significance of the Study
Without any doubt, educational
facilities have much to do with teaching and learning activity. Dubey and Bart (1998) say picture worth a
thousand of words. The use of
educational facilities always leads to the student quick assimilation because
physical experience will teach them than theory and verbal system and will stay
more long in their memory. These include
visual, audio – visual and resource personnel.
There are some areas in teaching and
learning activities that students will not clearly understand without applying
education facilities that are relevant to the area of the topic.
1.6
Scope of the Study
This research work will cover
Economics study in the secondary schools and the study will be limited to Ondo
West Local Government.
The subject of the study are the
impact of educational facilities on the teaching and learning of Economics in
secondary school in Ondo
State, a case study of
Ondo West Local Government Area. It
involves how educational facilities can affect teaching and have positive
impact in the life of the learners.
1.7
Definition of Terms
Some of the terms used in this
research work are logical and complex and to avoid mis-interruption and
misunderstanding by the readers there will be need to explain them.
These terms includes.
Impact: The powerful effect that
something has on somebody.
Educational facilities: Equipments
that are provided for providing educational or equipments that are connected
with education.
