ABSTRACT
The study is aimed at investigating the influence of science oriented
club on student’s academic achievement in integrated science. To carry out the
study, three research questions were
reviewed in line with the purpose of the study. Three hypotheses were
formulated and were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The design of the
study was survey design. The population of the study consisted of all students
in secondary schools class one in Ado local government area of Ekiti state. 90
students were randomly sampled from three secondary schools in Ado local Area.
The data collected were analyzed using both descriptive and inferential
statistics: chi-square was used to test the research hypotheses. The study revealed that science
oriented clubs influences integrated science students academic achievement in
secondary schools in Ado Local Government Area of Ekiti State. It was
observed from the study that Male
students prefer science subject compare to female students. The study
also revealed that school location has influence on students’ academic achievement
in integrated science. The study further revealed that students in urban area
perform better than students in rural area. Furthermore, the study revealed
that teachers attitude contribute to students’ academic performance. Recommendations were made
which include, School heads and teachers should strive to remove gender
disparity in their schools. In order to sustain students’ interest in sciences,
it is important that school heads should strive to establish or revive and
sustain functional science clubs and societies in their schools.
