EFFECTIVE USE OF ICT FOR THE PROMOTION OF LEARNING OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE IN SOME SELECTED SECONDARY SCHOOLS 

ABSTRACT

          This study investigated the effective use of information and communication. Technology (I.C.T) for the promotion of leaning of the English in secondary schools. Based on extensive review of related Literatures some research questions were formulated or guide the investigation.

          Relevant data were collected through questionnaires which consist of two forms one for teachers and the other for students. The data were collected from 100 students and 50 teachers in the ten selected secondary schools in Ikere Ekiti Local Government Area of Ekiti State. Survey types of descriptive design method were adopted and the data were analyzed using simple percentage. The result revealed that the effective use of information and communication Technology (I.C.T) for the promotion of leaning of the English language in secondary schools in Ikere Ekiti local Government area of Ekiti state is not really felt because of the poor availability of such facilities and  hinder the effectives and efficient knowledge of ICT.

           Based on the findings, it is whoever recommended that the federal ministry of education should provide functional resource centers in each local government. Also, there should be provision of in service programs for English teachers to enhance skills improvisation.

          Furthermore, government should provide adequate ICT facilities and materials to foster proper knowledge of ICT as this will bring about proper teaching and learning through the use of ICT facilities and materials.
