with obvious effects on educational policies at federal, state and local
government levels. This gradually laid the foundation of fallen standard in
education at the primary and secondary school levels, which cause differential
academic performance of students. In the question of findings survival feet,
the nation has evolved series of socio – economic and educational measures but
these have not improved the socio-economic status of families in country. It is
within this milieu that this study examined the relevance of parental status on
students’ academic performance in financial accounting in some selected
secondary schools in Ile-Oluji/Oke-Igbo Local Government. A total of one
hundred and fifty (150) copies of Questionnaire were administered to the
respondents. The study revealed that insufficient parental income, family type
and lack of funding by governments are factor influencing student academic
performance. Based on these findings, certain recommendation are made towards
improving students academic performance prominent of these include proper
findings of education and the support of NGO’s to eradicate poverty. Education
has come to be regarded as a lifelong investment in Nigeria. To this end
government should ensure that children from different social classes benefit
equitably from its status later in life as well as for national wealth and
strength.
