TECHNOLOGY AS A PANACEA TO THE PROBLEM OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNING IN SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN IDO – OSI LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF EKITI STATE
ABSTRACT
The
study investigated technology as a panacea to the problem of English language
learning in Senior Secondary Schools in Ido - Osi Local Government Area of
Ekiti State. It aimed at finding out the role of ICT in English language
learning and possibly suggest ways by which ICT can be useful to learning of
English language in the Secondary Schools.
The
research design for the study was descriptive design. The sample consisted of
one hundred Senior
Secondary School students
who were selected randomly from two schools in Ido - Osi Local Government Area
of Ekiti state. The research instrument was a questionnaire which contained
twenty items. There were five research questions that guided the study which
focused in students’ knowledge of ICT and students perceptions on the use of ICT
in English language learning.
The
frequency counts and percentages were used to answer the research questions
based on the outcomes of the responses from the respondents.
The
outcome of the study showed that technology equipment are valuable tools for
learning English language in the Secondary Schools. It was recommended, among others, that ICT
should be used frequently by the teachers in the teaching of English Language in
the Secondary Schools.
