A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF GENDER PERFORMANCE IN BUSINESS MATHEMATICS AMONG
BUSINESS EDUCATION STUDENTS
ABSTRACT
This
research work was carried out to examine gender performance in Business
Mathematics at the NCE I Level in College of Education, Ikere Ekiti, Ekiti
State, Nigeria. The study adopted an ex-post facto research design with a
simple of 200 students that were selected from the population using simple
random sampling techniques. Simple percentage and pie chart was used to analyze
the response from the Questionnaire while t-test statistics was adopted Testing
for the hypothesis raised in the study. It was revealed from the findings that
students displayed a fair performance in business mathematics and that there
was a significant difference between the performance of male and female
students. It was recommended among others that entry requirement of students
into business education department should be standardized so that only student
with credit pass in mathematics be admitted into the department.

Nigeria science and mathematics are given first class attention due to numerous
benefits derived from them (Ekeh, 2003). So the knowledge of mathematics to any
course of study at the tertiary level of education is very important as it
determines the level of study accounting inclusive.
