The sample involved 40 teachers and 152 students totaling 192 drawn from the eight selected schools in Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara state.
The main instruments used for the investigation were; a questionnaire based on the investigation into the various problems faced in the availability, adequacy and effective usage of geography instructional resources in the schools  and the results of the students that offered geography in the WAEC SSCE examinations from 2005-2009. To show the performance level of students that offered geography in the state.
Finding reveals that students perform poorly in the SSCE examinations due to lack of adequate teaching materials like textbooks, libraries, maps, field and laboratory equipments like thermometers, rain gauge etc and as well as lack of excursions and field trips.
Based upon the findings, the following recommendations were made:
Government should make specific funds available for the schools for the purchase of some instructional materials and teaching aids that is very relevant in the teaching of geography. The need for periodic excursions and field work should be included in the geography senior secondary school curriculum so that the students will be familiar with the geography around them.
