CHAPTER ONE
OKEMESI IN PRE-COLONIAL PERIOD
GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION
Okemesi is one of the prominent towns
in Ekiti West Local Government with the headquarters at Aramoko-Ekiti. It has a
population of about 90-4131 and it is the western boundary between
Ekiti and Ondo State. It is situated 32 kilometers to the North West of Ilesha
on latitude 71/20 North and longitude 50 East of the
Equator. Okemesi is bounded on the East by Ikoro-Ekiti and Ijero, on the South
of Efon Alaaye, on the North of Imesi-Ile and on the West by Esa-Oke both in
Osun State1.
Okemesi is bounded by rivers Osun, Oruro, Eleyinmi,
Oroki, Eredi, Ada and many others which served as sources of water supply to
the town. The town is surrounded by hills which served as hiding places for
enemies from entering the town. The temperature is average between 60-700C
the annual rainfall is moderately heavy between 160cm-170cm. The area
