ABSTRACT
          This work is focuses on the availability of educational facilities and students performance in tertiary institutions a case study of College of Education, Ikere – Ekiti.
          This study is made use of primary data collected through structured questionnaire.  The study formulated three different hypothesis and all were tested with the use of chi – square statistical technique. Findings were made from the analyzed data on the basis of hypothesis that were formulated.  The study recommended based on the findings of the study.

CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
Background to the study
          With the recent trends in educational development in Nigeria will readily appreciate not only the phenomenal growth of the nations education system in all spheres but also with welcome the objectives and philosophy of its policy on education.  The relevance of education facilities, human and materials resources towards the achievement of educational goals cannot be over-emphasized.  Provision of educational facilities makes learning in the school system more productive and meaningful.  This is realized when there are qualified teachers to handle specific subject and availability of required equipment for the various science and technical subjects that makes education more practical and involves the psychomotor domains in their educational pursuit.  Unfortunately, however inspite of the huge investments in education system.  Most of the old and new schools are facing “resources crisis”.
There are insufficient, inefficient and unstable personnel.  Resources for the school, building, equipment materials are handling readily, available.
The learning programme is being jeopardized by the phenomenal and this subsequently leads the yearly declining in the students performance in their final examination.  What actually are responsible for the yearly declines are the basic motives behind this study which has not gained much attention by the educational reaches in the past years.
Statement of the Problems
The educational facilities that has to do with text books, physical structures, library facilities and the financing mode of College of Education Ikere – Ekiti has great impact on the performances of the students in the institution because:
1)                If physical structures like lecture rooms are lacking where there is congestion in the lecture room where just 40% of students can assimilate what lecturer is saying, it will affect student performances.
2)                Text Book: If the textbooks that students can consult for more information is insufficient, it can also affect the student performances.
3)                Internet facilities: Internet facilities is also important which is lacking in College of Education, Ikere – Ekiti will affect student performances.
4)                Library which is the central unit of any institution is not adequate in College of Education, Ikere – Ekiti will also affect the students performances.
Purpose of the study
          The objectives of this research is to specifically bring out the impacts of educational resources on students performance College of Education, Ikere – Ekiti.  With a view of finding out ways of making the teaching learning process in Nigeria higher institutions of learning more result yielding.  This study is therefore designed to:
i.                        Examine the supply of facilities for affect learning will be necessary criterion for the achievement of standards.
ii.                        Find out if there are adequate provisions of learning resource in institutions
iii.                        To identify sources of educational resources that may influence the performance rate of the students in College of Education, Ikere – Ekiti.
iv.                        To determine if the higher institution with adequate resources do perform better than those institution without resources in Nigeria.
Research Questions
          Based on the assertion this study will solve the following problems.
1)                Does schools with adequate facilities performance better than institutions lacking facilities.
2)                Will provision of enough facilities enhance better achievement than those schools lacking in facilities.
3)                Are the available facilities in these schools efficiently utilized?
4)                Are there other factors apart from educational facilities that affect students performance?
Research Hypothesis
          Based on the above stated problems, the following hypothesis were formulated,
a)                 There is no significant relationship between educational facilities and students academic performance.
b)                There is no significant relationship between students academic performance and personnel quality and dedication.
c)                 There is no significant relationship between student’s academic performance and the library facilities.
Significance of the study
          It has been mentioned earlier that this aspect of educational research had been neglected for a very period of time.  This assertion then calls for the need to explore into the neglected area so as to bring the awareness to the government concerned and the society in general.  The necessity for educational facilities both personnel and materials and its undoubted contribution towards the excellent performance of our high institutions of learning students.
          The major strategies for the achievement and equalization of individuals access to educational opportunities as laid down in the their National plan (1993 – 1996) is to ensure that all school promote sound and affective teaching and in particular.  With suitable textbooks, libraries, and qualified teachers educational system from responding more fully to new demand and to raise its quality efficiency and productivity, buildings, equipment, and more better learning material will be needed.
          Mean while availability adequacy and proper utilization of educational resources have been identified and widely accepted by educations as better academic results and production of high quality students.  To this end, it is hope that this study will provide useful information to Nigeria advanced learners, school administrations and government alike about the probabilities, possibilities and potentialities of such study.
Scope of the study
          This study focused attention on the availabilities of facilities and how they affect the over all performance of the students in College of Education Ikere – Ekiti.  The study concentrates on few selected departments in College of Education, Ikere – Ekiti, Ekiti State, government the provost and some senior staff.  As well as some educational administrators involved in the exercise.
Definition of Terms
Education facilities: These are the essential resources that are needed for the affective operational and maintenance of any institution of learning it include both personal and material resources.
Personnel: In this study, personnel is referring to as the staff, persons employed in the school, therefore lecturers quality and effective referring to as personnel.
Education: There are many definitions for education from different people.  In this study, Education is the process of preparing people for future use for himself, society and the nation as a whole.
Facilities: Is the provision of adequate building equipments, lecturers etc, for development and success.
